Cross Country Recaps- Thursday, September 3

At East Central

  • Girls- East Central 19, Franklin County 40
  • Boys- East Central 19, Franklin County 48

Edited meet report from East Central assistant coach Fr. Jonathan Meyer:  East Central hosted Franklin County in a dual which has been taking place for decades.  The legend Steve Cotherman was on the golf cart leading the runners on the course he might as well consider his second home, since he has walked and measured it time and time again.

The girls race was won by the Trojans’ Rachel Campbell who ran a time of 21:37.  Lauren Kelly of Franklin County took second and was the only Wildcat who entered in the East Central pack.  She was followed by EC’s Faith Henderson, Kendal Pflum, Jessica Bender, Hannah Doan and Jocelyn Inderhees.

The boys race was won by Trojan senior Griffin Werner in a time of 18:20. Griffin dominated the race with a 58 second lead.  He was followed by two teammates- Michael Schwebach and Parker Fleming. Finishing within seconds of each other were Drew Grant of Franklin County, JJ Stenger of EC and Ben Maze of FC.  The same happened between Owen Hagen (EC), Reily Small (EC) and Hunter Marshall (FC), who finished in that order within two seconds of each other.  The Trojan Boys finished with a score of 18 with the Wildcats scoring 48.

The meet ended with the traditional honoring our seniors.  The senior leadership provided by the six senior boys is insurmountable.  This summer with COVID 19 shutdowns, our seniors stepped up, trained hard and showed a great example to their teammates.  There are no senior girls this year but the following boys will be missed: Ethan Campbell, Owen Hagen, John Hotel, Reily Small, JJ Stenger and Griffin Werner.

Edited meet report from Franklin County coach Stacey Nobbe: Senior Lauren Kelley placed second at the East Central dual meet. She stopped the Trojans from getting a perfect score of 15. However, East Central took the next five finishing spots. Junior Katherine Apsley was the next Franklin County finisher crossing the line in 8th place.

Senior Drew Grant, broke into the top five with his 4th place finish. Junior Ben Maze just missed a top five spot with his 6th place finish, just two seconds behind Drew. Sophomore Hunter Marshall was the final Franklin County runner to have a top 10 finish. His time of 20:23, earned him a 9th place finish.

Shawe at Crothersville

Edited meet report from Shawe coach Jim Leveille:  Shawe Cross Country competed in a cross country meet at Crothersville on Thursday. Neither Crothersville nor Shawe fielded complete teams. In the boys race, Sam Fewell finished third in 21:29, Wyatt Lundergan was fourth in 23:32 and Noah Guetig finished fifth in 25:53. In the girls race, Calli Alderman was second in 22:04 and Katie Jacobs was sixth in 37:18.

We thank everyone from each school who contributed to the recaps.
