Rushville Girls 1st, Boys 2nd at Union City Invite

Varsity Cross Country at Union City Invitational- Saturday, September 7.

Local results: Rushville girls first, boys second.

Rushville coach Jim Marlatt: Rushville made the trip to Union City on Saturday morning to compete in the Union City Invitational at Harter Park. The runners enjoyed great conditions and the Rushville runners all set season best times.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Lady Lions were the Union City Invitational Champions! The Rushville girls edged out Centerville 54 to 55.  Cowan finished 3rd with 73 followed by Monroe Central 79 and Cambridge City Lincoln 88.  Union County, Mississinawa Valley, Union, Tri, Union City, Seton Catholic and Anderson Prep all had incomplete teams.

The Lady Lion freshmen led the way to victory finishing as our top four runners.  Olivia Wehr was 8th in 22:35 and Cyndi Tush finished 11th in 23:00. Yanitza Norvell and Sofia Kemple finished 16th and 17th with times of 23:54 and 23:56. Morgan Adkins was 18th in 24:00. Abby Herbert took 23rd with a time of 24:36. Josie Cudworth and Samantha Crupe finished 33rd and 37th with times of 27:27 and 28:04.

The girls really did a great job. Most of the girls do not have much experience and the race was very close from start to finish. The freshmen did a great job of picking up the places they needed to squeeze out the win.  The Lady Lions season record now stands at 12-4.

On the boys side, the Lions finished 2nd in the 12-team field. Cambridge City Lincoln took the team title with a score of 41, followed by Rushville 48, Centerville 88, Monroe Central 93, Cowan 120, Union County 147, Mississinawa Valley 199 and Union 221. Union City, Tri, Seton Catholic and Anderson Prep had incomplete teams.

The Rushville boys ran well and placed five runners in the top 15. Sophomore Kyle Stanley was strong taking 2nd place with a time of 17:42. John King and Caleb Krodel finished 8th and 11th with times of 18:11 and 18:39. Cole Dixon and Keith Bacon were 13th and 14th in 19:00.2 and 19:00.6. Sam Sterrett and Adam Bousman took 19th and 23rd in 19:15 and 19:25. Freshmen Trenton Dyer and Ryan Schindler finished 27th and 28th with times of 19:41 and 19:44. And Heath Barada finished 38th in 20:38.

The guys ran hard. They competed well and gave themselves a chance to win. They just could not quite pick up enough places. All of the guys ran season best times and showed significant improvement. It was a good learning experience for the guys and good motivation to continue working hard. The Lions season record now stands at 13-4.

We thank coach Marlatt for the invitational info.
