Boys Soccer Recaps from Saturday, August 28

(VAR) Oldenburg 5 (home), Trinity Lutheran 1

Edited Oldenburg recap from coach Kenny Getz:  We finally are getting some boys back on the field.  I had seven subs and they were all needed on another hot day.  OA came out on top in this one by a score of 5-1 over Trinity Lutheran.

We were missing Eric Cornelius for the first two games.  He is our striker and responded with a hat trick in his first game back.  Offensively, we looked so much better, especially when we settled down and took our time.  When we are patient, we are a better team.

On defense, we got our center fullbacks back.  Joe Suttmann and Jacob Cornelius made a huge different for us in the back.  This also allowed Nick Folop to move up a notch to his normal position, so that helped us in the middle of the field.

Player of the game though goes to Angus Lonergan who had a great game at fullback.

Scoring summary and stats from OA assistant coach Mike Wilhelm: Eric Cornelius scored in period 1 at at 30:56 assisted by Zach Hoff’s pass into the 6 for the shot.  Jacob Hilbert scored in period 1 at 10:00 on a shot from 6 yards to the left post.  Nick Folop scored in period 1 at 3:53 assisted by Logan Sydzyik cross and a one touch finish.

Cornelius scored in period 2 at 32:48 assisted by Hoff’s pass and a shot to the left side.  Cornelius scored the hat-trick goal in period 2 at 7:33 on a restart by sending the ball over the keeper.

The Twisters had 20 shots with 10 on goal, 3 offsides, 7 fouls and 1 corner kick. Alex Matacia had 1 save and Folop had 2 saves.

Trinity Lutheran had 4 shots (all on goal), 5 offsides, 10 fouls, 2 corner kicks and their two keepers had 5 saves.

We thank everyone who contributed to the recaps.
