Boys Soccer Sectional Recaps from Wednesday, October 7

1A-44 at Southwestern (Shelbyville)- Oldenburg 2, Hauser 0

Edited report from Oldenburg coach Kenny Gets and stats from assistant coach Mike Wilhelm:   On to the finals as OA recorded its fourth shutout in a row.  It has been a few years since we made the finals and it feels good to be back.

We came out with a lot of energy, put pressure on their defense and found the back of the net twice within the first eight minutes of the game. Unfortuantely, that was all we scored but it was all we needed as Chris Hautman only had one save. The defense, led by Joe Suttmann, Jacob Cornelius, Josh Newman and Jake Negovetich kept the slate clean. We got everyone into the game and got Chris a cameo appearance as a striker in the final three minutes.

Freshman Charlie Furlow gave us some great hustle minutes. Walking off the field, senior Race Carle was telling the freshman he was proud of them and, by the time they become seniors, they will dominate. These comments are great to hear.

Carle scored in period 1 at the 38:30 assisted by Sam McFee on a pass into the 18 and a quick shot by Race. Blake Borgman scored in period 1 at 32:41 on a great shot from the left side of the 18.

The Twisters had 12 shots with 7 on goal, 3 offsides, 14 fouls, 3 corners and Chris Hautman had 1 save. Hauser had 4 shots with 1 on goal, 1 offsides, 7 fouls, 1 corner and their keeper had 5 saves.

The Twisters advanced to Saturday’s championship against Southwestern (Shelbyville).

3A-12 at Mt. Vernon (Fortville)- East Central 3, Mt. Vernon 1

Tied 1-1 at half.

No other details were available.  Trojans advanced to Saturday’s championship against Shelbyville.

We thank everyone from each school for their contributions to the recaps.
