Batesville at the Shelbyville Invitational

Edited invitational summary from Batesville coach Kyle Hunteman: Batesville traveled to the Shelbyville Invitational. The Bulldogs played in game two against Herron. Batesville started the first half strong with the first goal crossed into the box by Adam Vogelsang and volleyed out of the air by Eli Pierson. Next, Ian Powers took a shot at goal with the assist this time coming from Cody Sims. In the final seconds of the half, Eli Pierson crossed back post where freshman Emi Lopez got a header finish into the net.

The fourth goal came in the second half after a foul in the box when Emi Lopez nicely placed his PK. The final goal of the match resulted from a connection between freshman Ian Carpenter’s cross and Noah Pierson’s shot on goal. The final result for the first match was a 5-0 win for Batesville.

The next match was against Shelbyville. This was a very physical and intense matchup. The first half Batesville hung in there with their possession on the ball but let up the first goal of the game from a through ball ran touched around the keeper.

In the second half, Batesville had many more chances but struggled to find their way to the net. Batesville’s outside back defender, Sims, made a deep run inside Shelbyville’s box threatening a goal where he was fouled resulting in a nicely placed PK by Powers. The final goal of the match came from a Shelbyville corner kick where they beat us to the ball out of the air for a header on frame. Despite Batesville holding possession and finding lots of good looks on goal, the final result was a 2-1 loss.

Oldenburg 3, Trinity Lutheran 0 (home) (OA 1-0 at half)

Edited match report from Oldenburg coach Kent Getz and assistant Mike Wilhelm: OA traveled to Seymour to play Trinity Lutheranand came away with a much needed win 3-0. With each game played we are starting to get a feel of where our teammates are on the field. It was nice to see some balls finally find the back of the net.   It has been a struggle so far this year.

We had 20 players dressed and they all got to see some action. Great to see some of the younger boys get some varsity experience. They did not disappoint as they kept the pace up and had a few great scoring chances.

I really liked the tempo we played at.  We were the aggressor and playing with a purpose.   Our defense was spot recording their first shutout of the year.

At Trinity Lutheran, we used the football field which has been converted to a soccer field.  It’s a much better playing field than they have had in a very long time.

Race Carle got the Twisters started with a beautiful half diving head shot that went into the net but was unfortunately called off-sides and did not count.  Carle did keep the momentum going and scored in period 1 at 11:43 on a quick one touch shot at the top of the 18, assisted by Charles Furlow.

Carle scored again in period 2 at the 31:16 mark on a header assisted by Nick Folop’s header from a Sam McFee corner kick.  Beautiful play.  Carle score again in at 6:58 for a hat trick assisted by Josh Newman’s through ball into the 18.  Another beautiful play by the Twisters.

OA had 26 shots with 11 on goal, 2 offsides, 18 fouls, 1 yellow card, 6 corners and Chris Hautman had 2 saves.

The Trinity Cougars had 3 shots with 2 on goal, 1 offsides, 6 fouls, 1 corner and their keeper had 8 saves.
