Boys Golf Recaps from Saturday, April 3

There may be updates. Please check back.

Edinburgh Invitational (Timbergate Golf Course)

Edited recap from Greensburg’s Bryce Mize- It was wonderful to return to competition after missing our entire season last year due to the pandemic. Obviously, there was some uncertainty surrounding many teams with such a long layoff. However, this was a great way to start our season. Ben Bausback was solid all day using five birdies to card a great score. The rest of the guys were solid from start to finish as well. There were a few hiccups, but with a little more experience, I would expect us to correct those errors throughout the season. If nothing else, our performance transitioned my mindset on the season from uncertain to optimistic.

Edited recap from Batesville’s Bryan Helvie- The Batesville golf team opened the season at the Edinburgh Invitational held at Timbergate Golf Course. The Bulldogs placed 11th in a field of 20 teams with a score of 364. Guerin Catholic placed first with a 296 followed by Franklin with 321.

Batesville was led by Austin Pohlman with an 18-hole score of 86. Dean Campbell was second on the team with an 87. Other scores for the Bulldogs were Kyle Williamson (95), Jackson Wanstrath (96) and Jack Abplanalp (99).

Edited recap from South Dearborn’s Gary Louden- South Dearborn opened its season on a very windy Saturday at the Edinburgh Invitational. The Knights placed sixth in the 20 team event with a score of 338. Eli Hoffman led SD with a 78, Austin Theis carded a 79, Brady South put up an 83, Quentin Stevens came in at 98 and Brady Huff rounded out the scoring with a 103.

Edited recap from Connersville’s Jeff Martin- Connersville began its season on a blistery cold and windy day finishing 10th out of 20 teams at the inaugural Lancer Invitational at Edinburgh. The Spartans struggled throughout the day fighting the elements with a team score of 357.

I knew the weather conditions would impact my golfers and felt we did not make the adjustments we needed to and believe that greatly impacted our score.  It was the first ever high school match for Cooper Kinney, Will Chalker and Cole Martin. Overall, I’m pleased with our results for the first match in two seasons. However, I feel we are capable of a much lower team score.  I was pleased with our chipping and putting. We will continue to work hard and improve and I’m looking forward to a great season.

The Spartans were led by senior Jonah Graham finishing his round with a 78, tied for 12th overall out of 97 golfers. He was followed by sophomore Cooper Kinney with 87, sophomore Will Chalker 2ith 92, junior Dylan Thomas at an even 100 and senior Cole Martin with 110.
