(webcast) South Ripley 71, Greensburg 65

Versailles- Sometimes a big game fails to live up to its hype.  Saturday night in Versailles, two top 10 teams met when 3A-No. 5 Greensburg came to town to take on 2A-No. 6 South Ripley.  The Raiders overcame a seven point deficit the second quarter to claim a 71-65 victory.

In the opening quarter, five different Raiders scored as South Ripley led 16-15.  Zach Gentile and Cody Samples each scored four points for the Raiders while Lane Sparks led Greensburg with five.  Sparks was fouled on a 3-point attempt as time expired and he hit three free throws.

Those trio of charity tosses were the beginning of an 11-0 run by Greensburg to put the Pirates up seven early in the second quarter.  The teams traded points for the rest of the stanza, five by South Ripley, five by Greensburg, six by Ripley and five by G’burg.  Then the half’s final points were on a triple by the Raiders Zach Gentile which cut the Greensburg advantage to 33-30.

Dakota Walters scored eight in the second quarter to give him high point honors for Greensburg in the half.  Gentile’s 10 led South Ripley, six of which came from behind the arc.  Through the first 16 minutes, Greensburg held a 7-point edge at the charity stripe while South Ripley had a 6-point advantage from beyond the arc.
