(webcast) South Dearborn 51, Lawrenceburg 44- Rivertown Round 1

Aurora- For a second straight year, Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn opened the boys portion of the 2021 Rivertown Classic with an entertaining 32 minutes of basketball.  While the Tigers won the 2020 tournament meeting, it was the host Knights taking Thursday’s 2021 game 51-44.

Coach Brad Cutter’s Tigers trailed 7-3 before scoring 10 straight points and eventually held a 13-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

South Dearborn and Lawrenceburg exchanged leads three times late in the second period with coach Matt Coleston’s Knights grabbing a 21-19 advantage at intermission. SD’s Reese Willoughby led all scorers with 10 points while Dahya Patel notched six points for LHS.

The Burg got as close as 24-23 early in the third quarter before the Aurora boys went on a 13-2 run to go up a dozen, 37-25.   It was 37-29 at the end of three.

The Tigers never drew closer than six the rest of the way as South Dearborn (5-3) advanced to Saturday’s 7:30 pm championship against Rising Sun with a 51-44 victory.  Lawrenceburg (3-5) will face Switzerland County in the 6 pm consolation game.  You can watch Saturday’s games live on SEI Local Sports beginning with our Car Country Pregame Show at 5:35 pm.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game was South Dearborn’s Reese Willoughby who had a game-high 15 points plus five rebounds and two steals.

Also for the Knights, Quentin Stevens scored 11 points and grabbed three boards.  Eli Hoffman finished with 10 points, five assists and two caroms.  Isaiah Jefferson led the team in rebounds with six and added seven points.

For Lawrenceburg, Dahya Patel led the way with 13 points, a game-high nine rebounds, plus a pair of steals and assists to match.  Jackson Bobo turned in 11 points, eight boards and two dishes.  Ashton Craig followed with nine points and six grabs off the glass.
