Oldenburg 63, Jac-Cen-Del 43; 1A-60 semi (SEILS webcast)

Shelby County, IN- After struggling but surviving as a heavy favorite against Hauser on Wednesday, Oldenburg played very well in a statistical coin flip game with Jac-Cen-Del Friday and defeated the Eagles 63-43.

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

This marked the third straight season No. 13 OA eliminated JCD from 1A Sectional 60 at Southwestern Shelbyville.  The Twister victory improves their record to 17-7 and places the windy ones in the title game Saturday at 7:30 pm against No. 12 Morristown (18-6).  You can see the game live on SEI Local Sports beginning at 7:05 pm.

A Wyatt Day three pointer to start the game proved to be Jac-Cen-Del’s only lead of the night.  By the end of the first quarter, Oldenburg held a 10-6 advantage.

The lead ballooned to 13 points in the second quarter before a triple by Justin Ohlmansiek and a buzzer beating bomb from TJ Menchhofer got coach Jack Day’s Nesters back within seven, 22-15.

Those two trifectas were the beginning of a 12-0 run for the Eagles who found themselves down only one, 22-21, with just under six minutes left in the third.  But that’s where the JCD surge stopped and coach Gary Moorman’s Twisters went to work.

By the end of the period, Oldenburg’s lead shot back up to 11, 41-30.  Jake Johnson’s six points and five each from Zach Wegman and Dempsy Bohman accounted for most of the Cyclones’ scoring.

In the fourth, Jac got no closer than a dozen and a mid-quarter 10-0 run by the Twisters put the game away.  A strong final eight-point period from Andrew Oesterling and 10 of 11 free throw shooting as a team helped OA pull away to a 63-43 semifinal victory.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game was Oldenburg’s Jake Johnson who led all scorers with 17 points and Zach Wegman who netted 15 and had a solid all-around performance.

The Twisters’ Andrew Oesterling reached double-figure scoring as well with 13 points.  Also of note, Dempsy Bohman, who was a game time decision after an ankle injury took him out of Wednesday’s contest, turned in nine points.

Two Jac-Cen-Del seniors led their club in scoring.  In their last basketball performance as an Eagle, Justin Ohlmansiek scored 12 and Brandon Baber carded 11.

As was the case in Oldenburg’s 63-61 win at Jac-Cen-Del on January 31, the Twisters were able to force turnovers and convert the majority of them into points.  JCD had 17 miscues.  OA only had nine.  The Twisters also enjoyed a 30-21 advantage on the glass.
