When the teams met in Rising Sun in January, the Shiners’ T.J. Manifold posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  RS looked to the big man early during Friday’s rematch as he scored the Shiners first eight points on four field goals.  His fourth gave the Sun an 8-7 edge in the opening quarter and its only lead of the game.

Morristown outscored RS 10-2 over the rest of the quarter to go up 17-10 at the first stop. Kyle Crim scored 10 for the Yellow Jackets which included an and-one and twine tickler from beyond the arc.  Teammate Drake Moore added six.

In the second stanza, Morristown was one point better than Rising Sun and garnered a 25-17 advantage at the break.  Crim led all scorers at intermission with 12 points while Moore and Manifold both had 10.

The Yellow Jackets built an 11-point lead in the third quarter before Rising Sun started a comeback.  Chris Bowne dialed up a couple of long distance bombs as part of a 10-1 scoring run for coach Rick Scholl’s Shiners who drew within a deuce at 33-31.  Quinton Batton converted a traditional three-point play for Morristown before a field goal by Manifold made the score 36-33 in favor of the Stingers with a quarter to play.  Bowne and Manifold each scored six in the period for Rising Sun.

But coach Scott McClelland’s Morristown crew scored nine of the first 10 points in the final quarter to go back up by double digits.  Moore dropped in an arc buster as part of the run. Chase Kuehn went downtown for Rising Sun to cut the deficit to eight, but the Jackets scored the game’s next six points to thwart any thoughts of a Shiner comeback.  Moore finished the quarter with seven points while Crim added six.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were Morristown’s Drake Moore and Kyle Crim.  Moore logged a game-high 20 points while Crim finished with 18.

Senior T.J. Manifold also had 18 points in his final game for Rising Sun.
