Milan 84, Jac-Cen-Del 73; Indians clinch ORVC title share (SEILS Webcast)

Milan- Milan earned a share of the ORVC boys’ basketball championship Saturday with an 84-73 home win over Jac-Cen-Del.

The Indians could win the conference title outright if they defeat Shawe in Milan on Tuesday. Should the Tribe lose, then Milan would share the crown with the winner of Jac-Cen-Del at South Ripley on Friday.

Coach Jack Day’s Eagles led just once, 6-4, during Saturday’s ORVC showdown.  Coach Randy Combs’ Indians proceeded to score 17 of the next 24 points to go up 21-13 at the end of the period.   Adam Norman’s nine points and six by Peyton Wert led the hosts while Brandon Baber put in five for the visitors.

The Indians got up by as many as 16 points in the second quarter, 40-24, before settling on a 13-point advantage at halftime, 45-32.  Wert poured in 14 points during the period while the Eagles’ Wyatt Day and Justin Ohlmansiek netted eight and seven points respectively.

A barrage of three-point baskets in the third quarter got JCD back in the game, trailing just 63-60 at the stop.  Cameron Gehl and Ohlmansiek both bucketed two triples while Will Neal and Christian Comer dropped in one bomb each.  Gehl scored eight points in the stanza while Ohlmansiek contributed six.  Norman carded seven and Milan teammate Josh Clark kicked in five.

After taking Jac-Cen-Del’s best punch, Milan responded and quickly regained the momentum in the fourth quarter.  The Indians went on to win by 11, 84-73.  During the final frame, Clark dropped in seven points and Wert followed with six.  Day wrapped up his night with eight more points, six of which came from beyond the arc.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were Milan’s Peyton Wert with 28 points and Adam Norman with 20.  Both players made a pair of long balls.  Wert was 10 of 11 from the free throw line and Norman sank seven two-point field goals.

Also scoring in double figures were Jac-Cen-Del’s Wyatt Day with 20, Justin Ohlmansiek with 16, Cameron Gehl with 12 and Milan’s Josh Clark with 12 as well.

The win was Milan’s fifth straight and 10th in its last 11 games.  The loss for Jac-Cen-Del ended a four-game winning streak.
