LHS 75, SD 52; programs raise $15,000 on Coaches vs. Cancer Night (SEILS webcast)

Lawrenceburg- Yes, there was a game played Friday night in Lawrenceburg between the Tigers and the visiting South Dearborn Knights, but the real story was not the game itself.  It was a Coaches vs. Cancer Night where the two programs combined to raise about $15,000 in donations. Fifteen thousand dollars!

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again in HD by clicking here.

Coaches John Blackwell of Lawrenceburg and Kevin Reinhardt of South Dearborn started formulating a plan for their February 21 special game night shortly after the River Town Classic in early January.  Between Go Fund Me pages for the Dumb and Dumber like suits the coaches wore to t-shirt sales to an alumni game to dinner with entertainment, popcorn sales and more, their efforts and those who got behind them to chip in their talents and resources, raised a heck of lot of money for a worthy cause.

Congratulations to all!

Once the ball was tipped, the Tigers led from start to finish.  The Knights did tie the score three times in the first quarter with the last draw coming at 10-10.  LHS was up 17-12 at the end of the opening stanza thanks to 11 points by Gavin Yoon and six from Jackson Bobo.  Eli Hoffman hit a pair of threes for South Dearborn and teammate Alex Shackelford followed with four.

The Tigers struck four times from long distance in the second period to help stretch their advantage to 39-19 at halftime.  Two of the triples were by Gavin Yoon who netted eight more points.  One came from Dahya Patel who put in seven.  The other bomb was by Garrett Yoon.  SD only scored seven points during the eight-minute span. Three came via a third trifecta from Hoffman.

The big team stat in the first half were the 23 points Lawrenceburg scored off 12 South Dearborn turnovers.  The Tigers committed just three miscues prior to intermission.

At multiple points in the third, South Dearborn pulled within a dozen, but the spread was back to 16 by quarter’s end, 58-42.  Garrett Yoon unloaded with four, three-point baskets.  Hoffman made two more threes giving both players five buckets on the night from beyond 19’9”.

Lawrenceburg went on to post a 75-52 victory as Gavin Yoon carded nine more points for a game-high 33. He was named our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game.  The senior also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.  He was perfect on five three-point tries and all six free throw attempts.

Also for the Orange and Black, Garrett Yoon and Jackson Bobo scored 15 and 10 points respectively.  For South Dearborn, Alex Shackelford collected 19 points, four rebounds and five assists. Eli Hoffman booked 17 points and added four boards.
