South Ripley 74, Switzerland County 61 (SEILS Webcast)

Vevay- South Ripley moved into a first-place tie with Jac-Cen-Del Saturday as the Raiders defeated Switzerland County in Vevay, 74-61.

The Raiders led by as many as five points in the first quarter while the Pacers held a four-point spread.  At the stop, the scoreboard showed an 18-17 edge favoring the visitors.  Both teams saw five players score during the first eight minutes.  Cody Samples of South Ripley and Zach Weaver of Switzerland County each had six points.  Aaron Greiwe of the Raiders and Landon Wilks of the Pacers both bucketed a three pointer.

The second quarter was all Team Green as the Raiders outscored the hosts 20-5 to lead 38-22 at half.  Bryce Franklin led the Ripley charge with 10 points including two triples. Teammates Zach Gentile and Nick Schwarte also struck once from the arc.  Damion Breeck had all five points for the Pacers on a trey and a deuce.

Two baskets to open the third pushed the point spread to 20, but coach Adam Dennis’ boys battled back.  The deficit was cut to nine, 49-40, before the Raiders bumped their lead back up to 11, 55-44, at quarter’s end.

In the third, Franklin’s six points came on two more bombs giving him four triples on the night.   Weaver buried a couple of three balls for the Swiss and had eight points total in the period.  Breeck and Wilks both scored seven.

Three times in the fourth quarter, Switzerland County got within eight, but coach Billy Theising’s troops from Versailles turned their opposition away and prevailed 74-61.  Samples and Schwarte both scored seven in the final quarter for the victors while Breeck did likewise for the hosts, but it was Wilks’ nine points who topped them all.

The win for South Ripley improved its ORVC record to 2-0, drawing even with Jac-Cen-Del.  The loss for Switzerland County, now 0-2 in conference, was its second league defeat in as many nights.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game were South Ripley’s Cody Samples and Aaron Greiwe.  Both players scored in double figures and made other notable contributions as well.  Samples carded 15 points, seven assists, two rebounds and two steals.  Greiwe garnered 11 points, six assists, two boards, and two swipes. Nick Schwarte chipped in 10 points and three rebounds.

Bryce Franklin led South Ripley in scoring with 16 points.  For Switz, Damian Breeck led all scorers with 23 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds and two steals.  Landon Wilks dialed up 19 points, four assists and three boards while Zach Weaver collected 15 points and five caroms.

Most team stats were close, but South Ripley did have the better shooting night.  Ripley was 30 of 51 for 59 percent while Switz made 27 of 47 for 49 percent.
