South Ripley 55, Oldenburg 42 (SEILS Webcast)

Versailles-  A fast 11-3 start propelled host South Ripley to a 55-42 victory over Oldenburg Tuesday.

This game was part of our Highpoint Health Basketball Webcast Schedule and can be seen again by clicking here.  (HD file to be added at 8 pm Wednesday.)

Coach Tyler Theising’s Raiders forced two quick turnovers and converted them into the game’s first five points.  SR went on to lead 18-9 at the end of the opening stanza.  Five different Raiders scored with four connecting on long balls: Zach Gentile, Cody Samples, Jaden Peetz and Bryce Franklin.  Samples and Oldenburg’s Dempsy Bohman both had five points with Bohman also knocking down one triple.

A Nick Schwarte trifecta to start the second gave Ripley its biggest lead of the half, 21-9.  He and Samples both netted six points in the period to keep the Raiders in front at intermission, 32-21.  Jake Johnson scored four on the OA side.  Both Zach Wegman and Will Freeland carded three. Wegman completed a hoop and harm while Freeland found success from the arc.

A 5-0 burst to begin the third put the Versailles crew up 16, but coach Gary Moorman’s Twisters posted eight unanswered to close the quarter and trailed by just seven, 42-35.  Johnson scored eight in the quarter before fouling out with just under two minutes to play in the period.  Teammate Andrew Oesterling scored six, including a trey and a deuce to wrap up the third.  Aaron Greiwe logged seven points and became the sixth different Raider to strike from deep.

South Ripley slowly gained a little more separation from Oldenburg in the fourth and won by 13, 55-42.  Franklin’s six for Team Green led all scorers in the final frame.

In the second half, the Raiders did not miss a two-point shot and finished 13 of 17 in two-point field goals for the game.

Our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game was South Ripley’s Cody Samples who had a game-high 14 points and team-highs in rebounds (7), assists (7) and steals (4).

Teammates Jaden Peetz and Aaron Greiwe also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.  Jake Johnson led Oldenburg with 12 points despite missing nearly eight minutes of action late due to fouls.
