Lawrenceburg 54, So. Dearborn 52; Boys River Town Round 1 (SEILS Webcast)

Aurora-  It was a great game to start the boys’ portion of the 20th Annual River Town Classic in Aurora Thursday.  EIAC and neighborhood rivals Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn treated fans to a tightly contested and entertaining battle which ultimately saw Lawrenceburg defeat the host Knights 54-52.

The two teams were scoreless through about the first four minutes of the opening stanza and South Dearborn led at the stop, 10-7.  Alex Shackelford and Eli Hoffman of the Knights along with Garrett Yoon of the Tigers all hit a triple.  Gavin Yoon of LHS led all scorers with four points.

SD’s advantage was stretched to six, 16-10, before a series of trifectas by the Yoon brothers, three by Gavin and one by Garrett, gave the visitors a 21-20 edge at halftime.

The Tigers biggest lead of the night came early in the third at 25-20, but coach Kevin Reinhardt’s Aurora boys went on a 13-5 spurt to go back up 33-30.  The Dragon’s Den dwellers managed to hold a 36-35 lead with a quarter to go.

South Dearborn’s scoring efforts in the period were headed by Shackelford with eight and Hoffman with six.  Kamar Chenault tossed in six for Lawrenceburg.

The high side of the scoreboard was exchanged three times in the fourth quarter with the final flip coming on a 6-0 run by coach John Blackwell’s Tigers.  Their three-point advantage was again stretched to five, 52-47.  The Knights were able to get within two twice, including at game’s end, 54-52.

Gavin Yoon was dominant in the final frame with five field goals and two free throws for 12 points.  He and Tiger teammate Kamar Chenault were named our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Players of the Game.  Yoon finished with a game-high 29 points to go along with four rebounds and a blocked shot.  Chenault posted a double double with 11 points and 15 rebounds while also adding an assist and one block.

Garret Yoon for LHS scored 11 points and had a game-high three assists, plus two boards and a swipe.  For South Dearborn, Alex Shackelford was the top scorer with 18 points.  He also carded four rebounds, two dishes and a steal.  Reese Willoughby turned in 13 points with a night-high three steals.  And Eli Hoffman dialed up a dozen points plus tied Quentin Stevens for team-best honors in rebounds with eight.  Hoffman also collected one assist and a steal.

Lawrenceburg (6-2) will face Switzerland County (5-5) in the finals.  The Pacers defeated Rising Sun 44-39 in the other round one game.  South Dearborn (5-5) will take on the Shiners (1-7) in the early consolation game.

Please go see the River Town Classic in person, but if you can’t make it to Aurora, our coverage begins at 5:10 pm on Saturday with the pregame show.  Shiners and Knights tip at 6 pm.  The cheer competition follows and then the Tigers and Pacers will play for the title.
