It was quite the victory for first year Jac coach Jack Day. For South Ripley and second year coach Tyler Thiesing, it was the program’s fifth straight close loss to their arch rival.

The Raiders led throughout the entire first quarter.  It was 12-8 at the stop.  Cody Samples led Team Green with seven points, which included a three pointer, while JCD’s Justin Ohlmansiek and Caleb Simon each made a long ball for three points.

The lead was swapped six times in the second period, but it was still Ripley on top at the break, 27-24.  Sam Evans posted six points for the Raiders while Samples contributed five more.  The Eagles continued to hit the deep ball. Of the four hit in the second session, Cameron Gehl made two of them and had eight points to close the half.

The Raiders regained the advantage at intermission by scoring the final four points of the quarter.  They added eight more consecutive points to start the third and led 35-24.  But just when you thought South Ripley was well on its way to snapping a four-game losing streak to Jac-Cen-Del, the Eagles started their climb back into the game.

JCD got as close as four, 37-33, late in the third but Ripley posted the final three points in the period to lead 40-33.  Simon scored five quarter points while Samples and Zach Gentile each netted four.

Then scoreboard flipped one more time during the middle of the fourth on an 8-1 run by the Nesters.  A Will Neal inside two tied the game at 43 then a right-wing trifecta from Simon put the Eagles in front to stay, 46-43.  Jac-Cen-Del secured the 55-49 victory with 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch from Neal, Brandon Baber and Wyatt Day.

Jac-Cen-Del’s Caleb Simon was named our Southeastern Indiana REMC Power Player of the Game.  The sophomore forward produced a game-high 19 points including 12 from beyond the arc.

Teammate Justin Ohlmansiek scored 10.  Cody Samples and Sam Evans of South Ripley recorded 18 and 14 points respectively.
