Milan took a 5-2 lead in the first quarter on a trifecta by Joel Norman and a field goal by Orrin Schmidt.  North Decatur answered with seven straight points to go in front and later held a 14-10 advantage after the opening stanza.  Elijah Hoeing of the Chargers had a trey and a deuce for five points while Schmidt added a second bucket in the period to give him four.

Garrett Wood and Craig Adams both connected from long distance in the second stanza as North’s lead increased to 24-17.  Milan battled back to tie the game at 27 on a bomb by Damon Ward but ND held a 30-27 edge at halftime after Hoeing dropped in his second arc buster.  The Indians’ Joel Norman and both Garrett Metz and Hoeing of the Chargers all had eight points in the half.

Milan scored the first four points of the third frame and took its first lead since the first quarter on a pair of free throws by Schmidt.  After the Chargers briefly recaptured the edge, Carsyn Ascherman tied the game for the Tribe on a traditional 3-point play.  Schmidt later converted an “and 1” to push Milan in front 39-38.

But North Decatur strung together seven straight points, the last three coming on a 3-point play by Garrett Wood. The period ended with ND holding a 49-41 advantage.  Wood racked up 11 points in the quarter for North while Schmidt scored seven for Milan.

Down eight to start the fourth, the Indians booked 11 consecutive points to take a 52-49 lead.  Peyton Wert had seven of those points with three coming on a banked bomb.  Ascherman’s two free throws bumped Milan up by four, 54-50.  Metz tickled the twine from deep to get North back within a point, 54-53.  After Milan missed the front end of a bonus, Metz scored inside for two put North in front 55-54.
