Rising Sun 58, Jac-Cen-Del 48; JV Eagles 50-43

Rising Sun- There was no shortage of 3-point shots in the first three quarters of Tuesday’s Jac-Cen-Del at Rising Sun ORVC boys’ game.  But what was largely a night of triples came down to free throws in the fourth quarter.  The Shiners beat the Eagles 58-48.

Through the first 24 minutes, the two clubs combined for 66 points, 45 of which came from beyond the arc.  For the evening, the ORVC foes shot a joint 16 of 31 from 3-point land for 52 percent.

Rising Sun led by as many as seven in the first half, 10-3, and held advantages of 12-9 and 20-17 at the first two stops.  Wesley Rider of RS had seven points to top all scorers.  He hit a single trey as did teammates, Jacob Bovard, Landon Cole and Noah Pflum.

For JCD in the first half, its first 15 of 17 points came on the long ball.  Justin Ohlmansiek and Will Neal both buried two bombs while Caleb Simon sank the other trifecta.

Coach Travis Stangland’s boys from Osgood led only once, 24-20, thanks to a 7-0 run to start the third quarter.  But coach Rick Scholl’s Shiners countered with 11 straight points to retake the lead for good, 31-24.  By the end of the third, the hosts were up 35-31.  Bovard busted three shots from the 19-9 line for nine points in the period.  Simon’s five points, with one 3-ball, were tops for Jac.

For the season, Rising Sun is averaging only 12 free throws a game.  In the fourth quarter Tuesday, the Shiners took 12 in the final quarter and made nine, aiding in their 10-point victory, 58-48.  Bovard made 4 of 5 freebies in the final frame, two of which capped 3-point plays.  Ohlmansiek scored seven in the closing quarter for the Eagles.

SEI Local Sports congratulates Rising Sun’s Jacob Bovard as our Whitewater Motor Company Player Of The Game.  The senior guard had a game-high 20 points, hitting four triples and canning four key free throws over the final eight minutes.

Teammate Wesley Rider followed with 13 points.  Justin Ohlmansiek led Jac-Cen-Del in scoring with 15 points while Will Neal and Caleb Simon followed with 11 and 10 respectively.
