Madison 54, Lawrenceburg 48

Boys Varsity Basketball at Southwestern Shelby- Thursday, February 7

Madison 54, Lawrenceburg 48

A pair of 3A Sectional 29 teams met Thursday in Lawrenceburg.  Visiting Madison won 54-48.  The Cubs jumped out to a 13-3 lead before the Tigers trailed by just five at the end the opening quarter, 13-8.  Madison held a 25-17 advantage at half.

Lawrenceburg came back to tie the game late in the third but a Center field goal kept Madison in front at the stop, 33-31.

Twice, the Tigers took a pair of two-point leads in the fourth quarter on free throws but a bucket by Welsh resulted in the final lead change of the night bumping Madison ahead to stay 40-38.  The Cubs went on to win by six.

The key stat of the night was points off turnovers.  The Cubs converted 14 Tiger errors into 20 points while  Lawrenceburg produced only six points off eight Madison mistakes.

Cooper Yancey led the troops from Jefferson County with 16 points.  Teammate Mason Welsh scored 15 and had six rebounds.  Luke Miller followed with 11. Luke Ommen had a Cub-best seven boards and chipped in five points.

Gavin Yoon had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Tigers.  Garrett Yoon netted nine points.  Zach Mollaun had a team-high seven rebounds and added six points.

We thank Travis Calvert and Mason Jeffreys for their game reports.
