(webcast) Lawrenceburg 22, Rising Sun 5 (5 inn)

Rising Sun- The Lawrenceburg Tigers opened the 2021 baseball season with a 22-5 win at Rising Sun Wednesday.

Lawrenceburg jumped out early, sending 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, with nine coming across to score. Dakota Roth, Nolan Vertz, Conner Belamy and Kyle Heeney each had RBI singles for the Tigers.

The lads from the Burg added seven more runs in the top of the second as they again batted around, sending 12 to the dish. Devin Fluhman brought in a run with a sac fly while Roth recorded his second RBI single of the night.

Meanwhile, Tiger starter Ethan Weimer was shutting down the Shiner offense. He got some defensive help in the first inning when center fielder Sean Meyer made an over-the-shoulder running catch on a liner off the bat of Landon Cole.

Rising Sun got on the board in the bottom of the third. With one out, RS loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit batter. Jake Knippenberg worked a walk to force in the first run followed by a 2-RBI single by Ashton McCarty. A ground out by Brayton Williams brought in the final run of the frame for the Shiners.

After being held scoreless in the top of the third by Shiner reliever Jonathan Jiminez, Lawrenceburg put up a five spot in the top of the fourth. Hunter Chase had the big blow plating a pair on a double.

The Tigers added a final run in the top of the fifth on Kyle Heeney’s third ribeye single.

The Shiners produced one more run as well in the home fifth.  Cole singled to lead off the stanza, then stole two bases before scoring on an RBI single by Williams.  LHS reliever Easton Rutzel then fanned the next three batters in a row to end the game.
