Rising Sun 6, Oldenburg 0; 1A-60 Sectional Championship

The Rising Sun Shiners continued a trend of winning the sectional 60 title in odd numbered years, defeating Oldenburg 6-0 in the championship game.  The Shiners added to the trophies they won in sectional 60 in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.  Adding in 2012, Rising Sun has won the sectional 6 times in the last decade and 7 times in school history.

After Rising Sun went down in order in the top of the first, Oldenburg threatened  in the bottom of the first as Shiner starter Brayden Bush struggled to find his control.  He walked Andrew Oesterling on 4 pitches to open the inning and walked Matt Sedler with 2 outs to put Oesterling in scoring position.  It would be the last time that the  Twisters got a runner into scoring position in the game as Bush got an infield pop out to end the inning.

Rising Sun got the scoring started in the top of the 2nd.  Landon Cole walked to open the inning.  He moved to 2nd on a ground out bye Colby Ritter before scoring on a 2 out single by Max Bowne to make it 1-0 Shiners.

The Shiners added on in the top of the 3rd.  John Jiminez led off with a single.  Jacob Bovard followed with a walk to bring up Bush.  Bush homered in the Shiner’s semifinal win over South Decatur earlier in the day.  This time, he hit an 0-2 pitch off the wall in right to score Jiminez and Bovard to make it 3-0 in favor of Rising Sun.  He later scored when Colby Ritter reached on a Twister error to make it 4-0 Shiners.

After battling control in the first inning, Bush settled in.  He allowed a single to Hunter Sulivan in the bottom of the 2nd and issued a walk to Adam Huber in the 3rd.  After the walk to Huber, he retired 7 Twisters in a row, punching out 5 straight at one point before Oesterling singled with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th.

Rising Sun added single runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings.  In the top of the 5th, Bush hit a solo home run to right center with 2 outs, driving in his 3rd run of the game.  In the top of the 6th, Cole was hit by a pitch to open the inning.  He went first to 3rd on a single by Ritter before scoring on a sac fly by Peyton Bell to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Shiners.

In the bottom of the 6th, Riley Schebler singled with 2 outs before Bush got a strike out to end the inning. It was the 2nd time in the game that Bush struck out the side in an inning.
