Austin, Southwestern advance to finals at 2A-45

Varsity Baseball – IHSAA Baseball Sectional 45 at South Ripley HS

The following is an unedited report from South Ripley coach Jeff Greiwe

Wednesday, May 22

Austin 8 Switzerland County 2

Senior Peyton Hollan pitched a complete game to lead the Austin Eagles over the Switzerland County Pacers in game one of sectional 45 hosted by South Ripley.  The Pacers scored first with two runs in to open the game, but could not cross the plate again as Hollan settled down and held SC scoreless as the Eagle offense added runs as the game progressed.  Junior Zach Weaver suffered the loss.

Thursday, May 23

Southwestern 3 Milan 0

Senior Bailey Elliot pitched a gem for the Southwestern Rebels, shutting out the Milan Indians in a 3-0 affair.  The game was tied going into the 5th when the Rebels pushed across a run off senior Joel Norman, then added two in the top of the 7th to put the game away as the Indians failed to cross the plate thanks to the complete-game effort of Elliot.  Norman also pitched a complete game in a losing effort for Milan.

Austin 1 South Ripley 0

Senior Drew Buhr dominated on the mound, pitching a complete game no-hitter and striking out 12 Raider batters in a 1-0 Austin victory.  Buhr also did damage at the plate, knocking in the only run of the game with a double past first base in the fourth inning.  South Ripley’s Bryce Franklin was the tough-luck losing pitcher, also pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts and allowing only three hits.

We thank coach Greiwe for the report.
