Greensburg 8, Lawrenceburg 5; 3A-29 Round 1

Greensburg won the opening game of the IHSAA Class 3A Baseball Section 29 on Wednesday, defeating Lawrenceburg 8-5.  The Pirates advance to Saturday’s semifinal where they will face Madison in the first semifinal.

Both teams scored in the 2nd inning.  In the top of the inning, the Tigers Ethan Weimer walked to lead off the inning.  After stealing 2nd, he scored on a double by Logan Tingle to put the Tigers up 1-0.  In the bottom of the 2nd, Greensburg tied the game with a 2 out rally. Aaron Moeller walked, moved to 2nd on a passed ball and scored on a single by Sam Bower to tie the game at 1.

Lawrenceburg took the lead back in the top of the 4th, scoring 4 runs as they batted around in the inning.  Mitch McCool had a big blow in the inning, driving in 2 runs with a single. He would later score on a single by Peyton Hartman.

Greensburg matched the Tigers in the bottom of the inning, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring 5 runs to take the lead.  With runners on the corners, Bower scored Cole Nobbe on a bunt single for his 2nd run batted in of the game. Logan Smith and Cam Adams later singled in runs.  Cade Reynolds drove in the final 2 runs of the inning as he singled with 2 outs.

Ben Duerstock came on in relief for Greensburg in the top of the 5th.  He was greeted by Ethan Weimer with a double. With 2 outs, Dakota Tribbie walked to put 2 runners on but Duerstock got a grounder back to the mound to end the inning.

Lawrenceburg got another lead off double in the top of the 6th, this time by Austin Weimer.  Peyton Hartman was hit by a pitch to put the first 2 runners aboard. Duerstock got of the inning scoreless as he struck out 2 of the next 3 batters.

Greensburg came to bat in the bottom of the 6th, looking to add some insurance runs to their lead.  Cam Adams led the inning off with a walk. He moved to 2nd on a wild pitch and scored 2 outs later on a single by Reynolds, his 3rd rbi of the game.  Reynolds would score later in the inning when Aaron Moeller reached on an error.
