Athletes of the Week April 5-10

SEI Local Sports thanks our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshmen athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This edition is for April 5-10, 2021. Every athlete submitted is worthy and honored as an AOW.

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week based on the number and quality of varsity level submissions for each gender of both the EIAC and ORVC conferences.  ORVC includes Oldenburg (a state independent).

While some athletes participate in sports not recognized as conference sports by the EIAC and ORVC, those athletes are still eligible for Elite AOW consideration under their school’s EIAC or ORVC/Independent affiliation.

Adam Sizemore of Rushville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Baseball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior
  • Submitted by: Kyle Harpring
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Adam was 7-12 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run (grand slam), 7 RBI, 8 runs scored and 3 walks. He also pitched 2 innings with zero runs and 2 strike outs.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: The amount of time Adam has invested in becoming a good hitter really paid off last week. I have been excited to see him hit all winter. We believe he will continue to anchor our lineup all year. As our only returning player to varsity baseball, I am proud he is working to develop as a leader as well.

Michaela Ferman of Franklin County

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Softball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior Pitcher
  • Submitted by: Alex McCool
  • Submitter’s position: Varsity Softball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: In two game pitched, Michaela threw 14 innings with 2 wins and 30 strikeouts while allowing 2 walks, 4 hits and no runs.

Evelyn McAndrew of Lawrenceburg

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Tennis
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior #3 Singles
  • Submitted by: Alisa McMullen
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Evelyn McAndrew won all 3 of her first-week matches making her the only undefeated player on our team.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Evelyn is a great varsity tennis player. One of the things which makes her perfect for the position is her patience. Her unforced error percentage is extremely low. Evelyn will play all night if that’s what it takes to come away with the win. She is a coaches dream, never misses a practice, works hard on her own and is just as sweet as can be. Her hard work in school has also paid off as she will be heading to IU Bloomington this fall. Great Job Evelyn!

Bryce Franklin of South Ripley

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Baseball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Pitcher and Shortstop
  • Submitted by: Steve Franklin
  • Submitter’s position: Varsity Baseball Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Bryce went 5 for 9 in two games last week with a home run, triple, 3 singles and 5 RBI. He also pitched 3 innings with 6 striketouts, 1 walk and no runs.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Bryce has hit the ball very well the first couple games and pitched very well his first game out in relief.  He came in for relief at Austin with bases loaded and no outs and threw 4 pitches to get 3 outs and gave up no runs!

Andrew Oesterling of Oldenburg Academy

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Baseball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Infielder and Pitcher
  • Submitted by: Patrick Kolks
  • Submitter’s position: Athletic Director
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Andrew led the Twisters to a 2-1 record last week. He went 5 for 10 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 4 RBI and scored 4 runs. He also anchored the Twisters to a 12-1 win vs. Lawrenceburg as he pitched 3 innings, struck out 5, walked 2 and did not allow a hit.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Andrew has been the leading force in the Twisters early season success, both at the plate and on the mound. Having Andrew as our leadoff guy really sets the tone early for us. In both the Waldron and Lawrenceburg games, he started the games with a ground-rule double.

Lily Sparks of Switzerland County

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Softball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior Pitcher
  • Submitted by: Bryan Sparks
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Lilly threw 14 innings with 24 strikeouts while allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and no earned runs.  Offensively against Jac-Cen-Del, she went 2-5 with a home run, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Lily had a great week for us in the circle throwing two complete games with no earned runs. She topped off her week by hitting a 3-run home run to get the scoring started against JCD . We’re looking forward to seeing how she progresses throughout the season.
