September Athletes of the Month

The following are 71 September Athletes of the Month as submitted by area coaches, athletic directors and/or their designees.  We greatly appreciate their time and effort to recognize their athletes.  Because of a formatting issue, there will be no Elite selections this month….just 71 great local athletes and their wonderful accomplishments.  Enjoy!

BATESVILLE ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Kylie Laker of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Volleyball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Setter
  • Submitted by: Kateri Paul
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Kylie recently took over the title of all-time ace leader for our program surpassing Bailey Baumer. Kylie is a 4-year varsity starter who is currently leading the team in assists and is second in digs.

JJ Kuisel of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Boys Soccer
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Left Wing
  • Submitted by: Kyle Hunteman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach Boys Soccer
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: JJ Kuisel has 17 goals and 9 assists on the season so far as we head into our final match of the regular season. At the beginning of the season, he was named team captain for his outstanding work ethic and technical skill.

Sean Callahan of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: JV Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Cross Country Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: This is Sean’s first year on cross country and all month and every race he set a new personal best for himself.
  • Other information: Sean loves to wear his avatar glasses when he runs.  He’s always smiling like he is ready to take a great picture anytime. LOL!

Kyler Daulton of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity/JV Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Kyler stepped up for the last three meets of the regular season when four out of our top seven were quarantined to help get runner up in two meets and win the third.  Kyler ran many personal bests throughout the month.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Kyler is a pretty amazing young man who will give you everything he has all the way through the finish line. Every race, you know he had nothing left to give. It was his first year joining us and I can’t wait to see what he will accomplish next year.

Landon Gutzwiller of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity/JV Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Landon stepped up the last three meets of the year to help us secure two second place finishes and a first place finish while four of our top seven runners were in quarantine. Landon continued to run personal bests throughout the month.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Landon did a great job as a senior leader and put in a lot of work in the summer to help set himself up for the best cross country season of his high school career.

Dillon Murray of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity/JV Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Dillon stepped up the last three meets of the regular season to help secure two second place finishes and a first place finish while four of our top seven runners were in quarantine.
  • Other information: Dillon can make an awesome sub sandwich!

Luke Nuhring of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: JV Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Luke had a personal best for the season at his last race on his home course.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Although running doesn’t come easy for Luke or is the most enjoyable thing for him, he stuck with it for seven years (middle school days too) and was a great senior leader this year. I’m very proud of him.

Ella Moster of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: JV Girls Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Freshman
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Ella continued to improve all year, but was the only one to run a personal best at the last race of the regular season even as the wind and rain came in the middle of the race. She pushed through it and ran a personal best.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: I am excited to see how much she will continue to improve as she sticks with it. She also has one heck of a kick down the home stretch. No one has a chance to beat her and she is always passing others all the way to the finish line.

Sophie Myers of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Sophomore
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Sophie was added to the under 20 club when she ran a 19:52 at the Riverview Invitational.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Sophie has put in a lot of work and continues to work hard consistently running number two or three on the team.

Maria Lopez of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Maria joined the under 20 club running as she did it in back-to-back meets, 19:57 at the conference meet and 19:56 three days later at the Batesville Invitational.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Maria put in MANY miles this summer and it has paid off for her. She is consistently in the second or third spot on the team and continues to push herself every day.  I’m looking forward to seeing what she will do in tournament.

Adam Hollowell of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Ada, joined the under 17 club as he raced a 16:57 at the Riverview Invitational.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Adam missed most of his season last year due to a foot injury and the end of the season his sophomore year because of an appendicitis. He has worked really hard to get back to where he was and has been consistently our third runner this year. I’m so proud of him!

Ean Loichinger of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Boys Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior

  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Ean was the Conference MVP, the individual champion racing through at 16:27.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Ean is consistently our first or second runner.  He puts in the hard work and I am not only excited to see how the tournament season will go for him, but I am glad to have him for one more year!
  • Other information: Ean does not like chocolate milk.

Ava Hanson of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Cross Country
  • Athlete’s year/position: Sophomore
  • Submitted by: Lisa Gausman
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Ava joined the under 20 club when she ran a 19:20 at our conference meet and has consistently been our first runner leading our team to the conference championship and many other first places finishes. This time makes her the third fastest in school history.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Ava runs a very smart race and has a lot of toughness, especially at the end. I am super excited to see how she will stack up against some tougher competition in the tournament.

Olive Cerniglia of Batesville

  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Goalkeeper

  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Olive had 135 saves and
    1 shutout
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Olive is our captain and leads our team by example on and off the field.

Lauren Gutzwiller of Batesville

Alma Davalos of Batesville
