Athletes of the Week for November 18-23

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshmen athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This edition is for the period November 18-23, 2019. Every athlete submitted is worthy and honored as an AOW.

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week.  This special list includes one to three varsity athletes per gender, per conference (EIAC and ORVC/Independent).  The number of Elites selected is based on the number and quality of varsity level submissions for each gender of each conference.

While some athletes participate in sports not recognized as conference sports by the EIAC and ORVC, those athletes are still eligible for Elite AOW consideration under their school’s EIAC or ORVC/Independent affiliation.

ORVC/INDEPENDENT GIRLS’ ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Taylor Williamson of Milan

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Swimming
  • Athlete’s year/position: Freshman
  • Submitted by: Steve Stock
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Taylor, in her first high school swim meet as a freshman, won both her individual events vs. East Central and South Ripley. She placed 1st in the 100 Free and 100 Breaststroke. She swam to a school record in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:15.01. The previous record was set in 2006.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Taylor has made a commitment to swimming and the hard work it requires to be successful in the sport. She came in as a freshman with a few goals for herself, one being the 100 Breaststroke record, which she accomplished in her first meet. I have no doubt with continued hard work she will achieve her remaining goals for this season.

Bella Marcum of Southwestern

Bella is everywhere on the floor, causing chaos for the other time, and plays much bigger than she is. Day in and day out, she is asked to guard people physically taller and stronger than she is, but still holds her ground. Bella is our lone senior and one of our team captains and with her work ethic she sets a great example of how we want to play Lady Rebel Basketball.
  • Other information: Bella is a four-sport student-athlete: golf, basketball, softball and track & field.  She is currently ranked 4th out of 82 in her class. Bella is a super intelligent and athletic young lady.
