Athletes Of The Week for November 4-16

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshmen athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This first edition of the winter season is for the period November 4-16, 2019. Every athlete submitted is worthy and honored as an AOW.

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week.  This special list includes one to three varsity athletes per gender, per conference (EIAC and ORVC/Independent).  The number of Elites selected is based on the number and quality of varsity level submissions for each gender of each conference.

While some athletes participate in sports not recognized as conference sports by the EIAC and ORVC, those athletes are still eligible for Elite AOW consideration under their school’s EIAC or ORVC/Independent affiliation.

SOUTHWESTERN ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Ellie Foley of Southwestern

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Basketball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Junior Guard
  • Submitted by: Devin Brierly
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: In two wins against Oldenburg and West Washington over the weekend, Ellie had 28 points, an 82% free throw percentage, 19 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 blocks.  In our first four games, she has totaled 60 points and 35 rebounds.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Ellie has put our team on her back several times already this year but especially against Oldenburg and West Washington. She was a force on both ends of the floor, as you can tell from the statistics. She has been a tremendous leader for us and has been the glue that has kept our team together in these close games.
  • Other information: Ellie sat out all of last year with a significant knee injury. That was the second knee injury she has had in her career. Ellie has dealt with a lot and faced many challenges but is fighting through the pain and aches every single day. She’s an incredibly tough kid.
