Athletes of the Week for September 30-October 5

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshmen athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This edition is for the period September 30-October 5, 2019. Every athlete submitted is worthy and honored as an AOW.

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week.  This special list includes one to three varsity athletes per gender, per conference (EIAC and ORVC/Independent).  The number of Elites selected is based on the number and quality of varsity level submissions for each gender of each conference.

While some athletes participate in sports not recognized as conference sports by the EIAC and ORVC, those athletes are still eligible for Elite AOW consideration under their school’s EIAC or ORVC/Independent affiliation.

ORVC/INDEPENDENT GIRLS’ ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Calli Alderman of Shawe Memorial

  • Athlete’s year/position: Freshman
  • Submitted by: Jim Leveille
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Calli won the ORVC Conference Championship with a time of 20:49.  She is the first individual cross country conference champion from Shawe in over 20 years.
  • Submitter’s personal comments:  This was Calli’s first time on the Hanover 5k course. The earlier Southwestern Invitational was cancelled due to heat and Calli was sick for the Duke Meyer Invitational.  She came out strong with a fast first mile and managed to maintain that lead over South Ripley’s very accomplished Lanie Nicholson for the remainder of the race. This is Calli’s first high school season so she is still learning her pacing. But we have high hopes for her continued progress and look forward to the sectional where the competition will be fierce.

serve receive- 30/32 (94%) with 2.16 rating, hitting- 34/41 with 4 kills, assists- 3 with 18 attempts and digs- 25.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Aundrea continues to give us solid play in both the front and back row. She was among the top three statistically in 5 of 9 areas we track to nominate Athletes of the Week. Aundrea is extremely coachable and is always working to better herself and help her team be successful.
