Athletes Of The Week for August 26-31

SEI Local Sports would like to thank our area coaches and athletic directors who took the time to honor one or more of their varsity, junior varsity and freshmen athletes as an Athlete of the Week (AOW). This edition is for the period August 26-31, 2019. Every athlete submitted is worthy and honored as an AOW.

In addition, a committee has selected a group of varsity level AOWs as Elite Athletes of the Week.  This special list includes one to three varsity athletes per gender, per conference (EIAC and ORVC/Independent).  The number of Elites selected is based on the number and quality of varsity level submissions for each gender of each conference.

While some athletes participate in sports not recognized as conference sports by the EIAC and ORVC, those athletes are still eligible for Elite AOW consideration under their school’s EIAC or ORVC/Independent affiliation.

EIAC BOYS’ ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Adam Dixon of South Dearborn

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Football
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Quarterback
  • Submitted by: Rand Ballart
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Adam tied his own school record with 5 TD passes to 5 different receivers. He was also 4 yards shy of breaking his own single game passing yards record with 295.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Adam was very poised under center and took control of the game from the onset. Knowing he did not have his senior tailback for the game, he had to step up and have a big game. That is exactly what he did: 18 for 25 (72%) passing for 295 yards, 5 TDs, 1 interception with a long of 55 yards.

Defensive Unit of Lawrenceburg

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Football
  • Athlete’s year/position: All Grades
  • Submitted by: Ryan Knigga
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: The Tiger defense pitched a shutout vs. Taylor holding them to -20 yards rushing and 162 passing yards for only 142 yards on the night. The defense also came up with 4 interceptions, 2 each by Jayce Bohan and Aiden Gilmour.

EIAC GIRLS’ ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Carlie Werner of Batesville

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Girls Soccer
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Forward
  • Submitted by: Kyle Laker
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Carlie scored 4 times and added an assist to help us defeat Greensburg, 11-0. Against Bishop Chatard, she scored the game’s opening goal and then finished her PK in double overtime to help secure the shootout victory.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Carlie is an outstanding leader on and off the field, and I am enjoying every minute of her senior season. She has already recorded 8 goals through 5 games, and I look forward to seeing her score many more before the season ends.

Alex Disbro of East Central

  • Level/Sport: Varsity Volleyball
  • Athlete’s year/position: Senior Libero
  • Submitted by: Cassie Laker
  • Submitter’s position: Head Coach
  • Athlete’s accomplishments: Last week, Alex helped lead our team in the back court and from the service line. She went 29/33 serving over 6 matches with 3 aces. She is taking more risks serving and, while they didn’t immediately lead to a point, what the stats don’t show is how often the opponent was out of system because of her ability to place the serve. Offensively, she also added 16 assists. Where Alex thrives is in the back court, passing. She led the team last week in receptions and digs. She passed an incredible 2.5 to target (out of 3.0) on serve receive, with her best passing coming against the stronger competition at Brownstown Central. She was 46/47 on serve receive. Defensively, she added 50 digs for the week in 5 matches.
  • Submitter’s personal comments: Alex is always working hard and trying to get better. She is on track to break the EC single season record for digs because she continues to push herself to read the hitters. Alex is very coachable and always takes in any advice the coaches give her.
