Rushville coach Mark Mathews:  The Lions advanced five wrestlers to day two. Nick Lawler received a forfeit in the opening round before pinning Eastern’s Dawson Dupin to advance. Brandon Sturm also received a first round forfeit before defeating Diego Sanchez from Daleville with a first period pin to advance. Jonah Yazel opened with a loss to Alex Streuser of Fishers then rattled off three consecutive wins to advance. Yazel won by forfeit, defeated Kamyron Seiber from Connersville by pin and then beat Northeastern’s Spencer Day 8-0. Marcus Vaughn started with a pin over Mason Peed from Centerville before falling to Greenfield Central’s Brad Lowe in round two. Vaughn then earned back-to-back pins over Kainin Klein of Union County and Michael Luciano of Shelbyville to advance. Ira Griffith was the fifth Lion to advance. Griffith opened with a forfeit before falling to Cameron Christian from Ft. Wayne Snider. Griffith bounced back with a pin over Cole Meeks from Southern Wells, and a technical fall (19-2) over Tyler Vandervilet from Eastern Hancock.

When the second day was done, the Lions had placed three wrestlers. Brandon Sturm opened day two with a pin over Alexander Burton of Eastern Hancock before falling to eventual champion Jacob McClaine. Sturm bounced back with a 3-2 win over Dalton Pinaire of Eastern (Pekin) but fell in the third place match 6-3 to Hunter Gulden of Greenfield Central to place fourth. Nick Lawler opened was a loss to eventual champion and tournament MVP Jack Eitlejorge of Carmel. Lawler got back in the win column with a pin over Andrew Witsett of Lebanon and defeated Hagerstown’s Cameron Pyrrha 8-7. Lawler then fell to Union County’s Cam Coffman before finishing with a pin over Colton Massey of Connersville to finish fifth. Ira Griffith started with a pin over Jay County’s Mitchel Frasher. Griffith then picked up another pin over JB Cioe of Valparaiso. Griffith lost to Cameron Christian of Ft. Wayne Snider and to Carmel’s Nate Frey to finish sixth.  Jonah Yazel and Marcus Vaughn both made it to the second day but were eliinated in their opening matches.
