Rushville wins Milan 6-Way

Edited meet narrative from Rushville coach Mark Mathews:

The Rushville Lions finished 4-1 and were champions of the Milan 6-Way. The Lions opened the day with a tough loss to the host Milan, 51-26. Marcus Vaughn, Ira Griffith, Brandon Sturm, Lowell Joya, and Matthew Grote all had wins for Rushville.

The Lions turned things around in round two against Union County, winning 66-12. Vaughn, Griffith, Kohl Mann, Sturm, Leland Joya, David Oakley, Matthew Bertram, Lowell Joya, Grote, Jonah Yazel, and Casey Nowlin-Smith were all winners over the Patriots.

Rushville faced off with South Dearborn in round three and it came down to the final match. The Knights were leading 38-36 with Nick Lawler stepping to the mat for the Lions. Lawler wrestled his way to a 9-2 decision to give Rushville the 39-38 victory. Also picking up wins over SD for the Lions were Vaughn, Griffith, Leland Joya, Oakley, Bertram and Lowell Joya.

The Lions didn’t slow down in round four as they topped Lawrenceburg 42-36. Again, this match came down to the last pairing.  Vaughn secured a pin at the 0:59 mark to push the Lions past the Tigers 42-36. Mann, Leland Joya, Lowell Joya, Grote, Yazel and Lawler all recorded a W against LHS.

Rushville finished the day with a 60-24 victory over Batesville. Mann, Sturm, Leland Joya, Bertram, Lowell Joya, Braiden Hunter, Grote, Lawler, Vaughn and Griffith.

Going 5-0 for Rushville were Lowell Joya and Marcus Vaughn. Finishing 4-1 were Matthew Grote, Ira Griffith and Leland Joya. Logging three wins were Matthew Bertram, Nick Lawler, Kohl Mann, and Brandon Sturm. Carding two victories were David Oakley and Braiden Hunter. Casey Nowlin-Smith had a win as well. In JV action, Jacob Hammons scored two wins while Carter Newton, Dylan Galusha, Zek Phillips and Ian Reed had one each.
