North Decatur defeats South Ripley for 2A Sectional 45 title

Southwestern- Many had anticipated a Milan/Southwestern rematch for Saturday’s 2A Sectional 45 volleyball championship on Saturday at Southwestern.  However, South Ripley and North Decatur had other ideas as both the Raiders and Chargers pulled off upsets to advance to the title match.

South Ripley opened the first semifinal with a 25-20 victory in game one.  Milan and South Ripley then traded 25-19 finals which, after three games, had the Raiders on top 2-1.  The Indians forced a game five by taking the fourth set, 25-15.  But it was South Ripley pulling it back together in the tiebreaker and winning 15-10 to claim the match 3-2.

The win by the Raiders avenged a pair of 3-2 losses to the Indians during the regular season.

Stats will be added when received.

North Decatur, in the second semi, was also able to avenge a regular season loss by knocking out the tournament favorite- host Southwestern.  The Rebels beat the Charger 2-0 at Southwestern’s invitational tournament.  But on Saturday, it was ND which pitched the shutout on the Rebels’ home floor: 25-20, 25-14, 25-19.

Stat leaders:

  • Kills- (ND) Maddy Day 13, Erika Kramer 8, Erica Gauck 7; (SW) Keely Fink 7, Kiah Fink 6, Abby Ralston 5, Kassey Worcester 5
  • Aces- (ND) Gauck 3, Kramer 2 (13/13); (SW) no multiples

  • Serve Receive- (ND) Gauck 23, Olivia Bohman 8, Anna Burkhart 5; (SW) Means 29, Lakyn Wilson 16, Keely Fink 14

So that set up the title match between South Ripley and North Decatur.  The Chargers were in control for nearly all of it as they won in straight sets: 25-5, 25-21, 25-12.
