Batesville 3, South Dearborn 0- 3A-29 Sectional Round 1

Batesville- As first-round play continued Thursday at the Class 3A-29 Volleyball Sectional, host Batesville was a 3-0 winner over South Dearborn: 25-6, 26-24 and 25-6.

This match was seen live as part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Webcast Schedule.  See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

There really isn’t much to report from sets one and three as the Bulldogs surrendered a combined total of 12 points.  Macy Prickel led BHS in both games with (unofficially) four kills and three aces in the first frame then five kills with one ace in the third.

The Dogs’ co-coaches, Kateri Paul and Jody Thomas, saw their club commit only half of the unforced errors SD committed.  Defensively, the hosts also only allowed one kill and one block to the ladies from Aurora over the pair of 25-6 finals.

The second game was a completely different story.  Coach Michelle Standriff’s Knights elevated their game and the Bulldogs got a little sloppy.  That resulted in a very competitive set which saw seven ties and extended play.

SD had as much as a 5-point lead, 11-6.  Down 12-8, Batesville went on a 7-0 run to go up 15-12. After that, the Knights stayed in the match and produced five more ties but never got back on the high side of the scoreboard.  BHS turned SD away at every tie and hung on to win 26-24.

Hattie Westerfeld was the driving offensive force for Batesville in game two with 5 kills, 1 ace and 1 block.  For South Dearborn, several players made contributions.  Hannah Halbig and Allyson Kunkle both collected an ace and a kill, Grace Quinlan had a smash and a block while Megan Howell logged two spikes for points.

SEI Local Sports congratulates Batesville’s Macy Prickel as our Whitewater Motor Company Player of the Match.  The junior unofficially led her club in both kills and aces with nine and four respectively.
