East Central reserves win EIAC JV Tournament

Junior Varsity Volleyball, EIAC JV Tournament at Franklin County- Saturday, October 6

East Central’s Debbie Gregg- “East Central won the EIAC JV tourney with 4 wins: def. Greensburg 25-22,20-25, 17-15; def. Connersville 25-17, 25-18; def. Franklin County 25-11, 27-25; def. Batesville (championship) 25-22, 16-25, 15-9.

“Jessie Stenger dominated at the net with team high of 36 kills on the day. She also added 9 aces serves to lead the team. Avery Daniels, Ella Fledderman, and Hope Fox also added 9 kills. Allison Huismann and Ella Fledderman controlled the offense with setting duties. Allison had 59 assists and Ella had 38 assists. Faith and Hope Fox served consistently, played excellent defense and added a threat at the net as our outside hitters. Casey House anchored the court with her libero duties.”

“The JV team stepped up to play some of their best volleyball to end the season. They never gave up. It was a double elimination tournament, which gave all of the teams a chance to come back and win if they lost a match; however, our girls played with intensity and didn’t lose a match all day. It was a great way to end our season finishing 22-10 overall and 10-4 in the EIAC.”

Batesville’s Shelly Prickel- “The JV Lady Bulldog volleyball team showed a tremendous amount of fight in Saturday’s EIAC Conference Tourney falling just short in the title game. In the opener, Batesville earned a commanding 25-11, 25-5 win over Rushville in which Nikki Fox served 17 consecutive points in set two to ignite the team.”

“In the second match of the day, the team battled Franklin County getting edged in a nail biter. Scores were 25-23, 21-25, 14-16. The loss sent the team into the ‘second chance’ bracket.  The team showed great grit and intensity stringing three consecutive wins over Greensburg (25-23, 22-25, 17-15), Connersville (25-23, 25-23), and Franklin County in a rematch (28-26, 25-21). The ladies fought through the fatigue and competed valiantly in the championship vs. East Central getting edged 22-25, 25-16, and 9-15.”

“For the day, Belle Wolters was the overall leading server accumulating 41 points including 8 aces serving with an impressive 97% accuracy. Fox and Katie Bedel had the highest ace percentage at 33%. Fox had the most kills with 30 followed closely by Shelby Westerfeld (28), Bedel (27), and Kerigan Haskamp (25). Regina Gerstbauer was very reliable in the front line with 100% accuracy on the day in 33 attempts. Westerfeld earned a team high 64 assists from her setting position. Defensively, Haskamp was the top blocker with 23 including 12 stuff blocks. In the back row, Sydnee Schaefer led the defense with 54 total digs. Grace Sarringhaus was consistent offensively and defensively throughout the day picking up 18 kills and 25 digs overall.”

“The team finished the season with a record of 18-8 including a string of 8 straight victories midway in the season. I am incredibly proud of the girls for gutting it out and proving we are a worthy opponent in each and every match. Batesville has much to be proud of with this group as they represented us with great passion and sportsmanship all season long.”

We thank coaches Gregg and Prickel for the tournament reports.
