Rising Sun 3, Jac-Cen-Del 0; 1A Sectional 60 Round 1

Hauser-  They split their two meetings during the regular season.  Jac-Cen-Del was a 2-0 winner over Rising Sun in a season opening tournament.  The Lady Shiners defeated the Lady Eagles later in the ORVC match.  On Tuesday at Hauser, it was RS in three sets over JCD: 25-12, 25-16, 25-20.

This game was seen live as part of our Margaret Mary Health Fall Webcast Schedule.  See it again archived in 720p HD by clicking here.

The Lady Shiners started the night scoring the first 12 points behind the serving of Abby Wallace and the front-line dominance of Danyka Groover.  Down 15-1, the Lady Eagles made scored six of the next seven points to close within nine, 16-7.  However, the Shiners closed out the opening set, up 13 points, 25-12.

In game two, the start for RS wasn’t quite as dramatic, but the Blue and White enjoyed a 7-1 spread early on.  The Lady Eagles stayed within striking distance thanks largely to Katie Gehl and Morgen Carroll.  In fact, the pair helped pull JCD to within one, 13-12.

Shiner Libero Sydney Bostic, who served multiple aces during the run to start game two, came out of the time out and had a repeat performance.  She helped her team to eight straight points and 21-12 lead.  Rising Sun went on to win 25-16 and now had a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five competition.

This match, though, did not extend beyond a third set.  It did, however, feature the night’s only tie, 2-2.  Rising Sun broke the tie with six straight points to go up 8-2.  The Shiners’ Lindsay Montgomery and Lucy Phelps had several strong swings to keep RS in front.  JCD battled and drew within three, 23-20, but couldn’t string enough points together to flip the scoreboard.  Rising Sun won 25-20 to claim the Sectional 60 opener 3-0.

SEI Local Sports congratulates Rising Sun’s Danyka Groover for being named our Whitewater Motor Company Player of the Match.  Unofficially, the junior hammered 14 kills and recorded four blocks.
