Madison- In an up and down baseball battle in Madison Friday, Shawe nipped North Decatur 11-10.
The Hilltoppers took advantage of some sloppy defense early by the Chargers and were up 3-0 after two innings.
North Decatur came back to score five runs in the third, all with two outs, to take a 5-3 lead. Christian Cashman, Seth Gauck, Jeffrey White, Austin Brown and Jacob Phillips all had hits to contribute to the surge.
Shawe wasted no time in getting the lead back though as they scored two in the home third to tie and added five more in the fourth to go up 10-5. Kyle Daugherty homered in the fourth.
Five run innings were seemingly commonplace in this game as ND posted another five spot in the fifth. White drove in a run, Phillips had a two-run single and Jason Kirchhoff tied the game with his two RBI base hit.
The deciding run of the unearned variety was scored by the Toppers in the bottom of the sixth. Jesse Ball singled and went to third on an error. After a Whit Grote walk, Ball scored on a fielder’s choice by David Grote.
Luke Higgins got the win for Shawe. Jacob Phillips took the loss for North Decatur.
