Rushville and Connersville compete at Cougar Chase Invite

The following are unedited varsity boys track reports from Rushville coach Jim Marlatt and Connersville coach Jeff Cooley.  We thank them for the reports.

(Rushville) The Rushville boys track team traveled to Greenfield on Friday evening to compete in the Cougar Chase Invitational. The Lions competed very well against a strong field of teams and came away with a 5th place finish. Franklin Community took the boys team championship with a score of 159, followed by Greenfield Central-115, Roncalli-100.5, Greenwood-93.5, Rushville-86, Danville-50, Connersville-36, and Frankton-18. Franklin also won the combined boys and girls team trophy. The Rushville boys team record now stands at 14-8.

On the track, the Lions competed in the 4×200 relay for the first time this season, the team of Jordan Smith, Guy Herrington, Connor Hay, and Zack Wood finished 5th overall with a time of 1:41. The 4×800 team of Isaac Chastain, Ethan Chastain, Michael Slaton, and Andrew Miller took 2nd with a season best time of 8:30. Keith Hallgarth placed 4th in the 110m hurdles in 17.47 with Austen Gerrian finishing in 11th. Trevor Valentine and Trey Cain were 3rd and 4th in the 100 with times of 11.58 and 11.70 respectively. In the 1600, Miller placed 8th overall with a time of 4:51 while Nick Innis and Nick Neuman finished 15th and 20th in season best times of 5:03 and 5:27. The 4×100 team of Smith, Wood, Cain, and Valentine ran a season best time of 45.56 to finish 4th.

Ira Griffith ran a season best time of 52.65 in the 400 to finish 5th overall with Adam Bousman taking 13th place. Hallgarth returned to finish 5th in the 300m hurdles with a season best time of 42.86. In the 800, Isaac Chastain ran a season best time of 2:05 to finish 6th in the 800 with Slaton taking 11th and E. Chastain finishing 15th with a season best time. Valentine was strong in the 200 finishing 2nd with a time of 23.61 with Cain taking 7th with a time of 24.29. The young Lion distance runners were excellent in the 3200. Cole Dixon ran a season best time of 10:43 to finish 10th with freshmen Sam Sterrett and Caleb Krodel both running season best times of 11:16.08 and 11:16.97 to finish 16th and 17th. The 4×400 team of I. Chastain, Slaton, Griffith, and Miller took 3rd place with a time of 3:39.

In the field events, Trevor Valentine finished 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 20’10”. Ira Griffith and Austen Gerrian finished 13th and 15th with distances of 17’10.5″ and 16’10” respectively. Keith Hallgarth and Nick Wethington finished 4th and 5th in the pole vault clearing 12’0″ and 11’6″ with John King taking 13th clearing 9’0″. Trey Cain tied his season best in the high jump clearing 5’8″ to finish 4th overall. Ira Griffith finished 6th in the discus with a throw of 125’8″ with Nick Amos and Nick Culley finishing 23rd and 24th with distances of 75’10” and 64’3″ (season best). And Nick Culley threw a season best in the shot put to finish 22nd with a distance of 24’3.5.

“The guys had a very solid meet tonight. The competition was very strong and I thought our guys really stepped up to the challenge. This is the type of meet and competition that helps the team get prepared for the Conference and Sectional meets coming up in the next two weeks. Hopefully everyone can get to feeling good and be their best for the Conference meet on Thursday.”

(Connersville) The boys track team finished 7th at the Greenfield Central Cougar Chase. The boys were lead by Collin Herrons two third place finishes in both hurdle races. Brendan Robinson also placed third in the discus with a personal best throw.Others placing in the top eight were Dylan Cox 7t h in the 400 Skylar Hentz 6th in the pole vault, Victor Torress 8th in the high jump The 4×100 team was 7th and the 4×200 team was 6th Both the 4×400 and 4×800 teams were 7th.
