Rushville boys 87, Shenandoah 36; Lady Lions 64-57

The following are varsity track reports from Rushville coaches Jim Marlatt and Kara Westfall.  We thank them for the reports.

The Rushville boys track team traveled to Shenandoah on Thursday evening to compete in a dual meet with the host Raiders. The track team enjoyed beautiful weather for the first time this season and earned a victory with a final score of Rushville-87 and Shenandoah-36. The Rushville boys season record now stands at 10-3.

In the field events, Kohl Mann set a new season best in the shot put with a throw of 40’1.5″ to finish 3rd with Leland Joya, David Walker, and Nick Culley (season best) also competing. Trey Cain finished 2nd in the high jump clearing 5’6″. Ira Griffith took 1st in the discus with a throw of 128’8.5″ with Mann finishing 3rd throwing 101’7.5″. Joya, Walker, Culley, and Nick Amos (season best) also threw well in the event. In the long jump, Trevor Valentine and Griffith took 1st and 2nd overall with distances of 19′.5″ and 17’5″ respectively. Hunter Norris and Josiah Hay (season best) also competed in the event.

On the track, the 4×800 team of Isaac Chastain, Ethan Chastain, Michael Slaton, and Andrew Miller finished 1st overall with a time of 8:41. Jacob Kirchoff, Nick Innis, Keith Bacon, and Adam Bousman finished 3rd and Nick Neuman, Heath Barada, Adrian Meza, and John King finished 4th in the event. In the 110m hurdles, Keith Hallgarth, Austen Gerrian, and Connor Hay completed the sweep finishing 1st-3rd in 16.2, 18.14, and 18.16 (all season bests) with Kanyon Keith also running well. Valentine and Cain finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 with times of 11.10 and 11.11 respectively. Zack Wood finished 5th with Joshua Sheets, Guy Herrington, Hunter Norris, Nick Bowling, and Josiah Hay also running well. Miller took 1st in the 1600 with a time of 4:54 with Nick Innis taking 3rd with a season best time of 5:09. Sam Sterrett, Cole Dixon (season best), and Caleb Krodel (season best) finished 4th, 5th, and 7th respectively. The 4×100 team of Gerrian, Wood, Cain, and Valentine finished strong to take 1st place with a time of 48.63 while the team of Herrington, Sheets, J. Hay, and Norris finished 3rd.

Griffith, Bousman, and Kirchoff finished 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the 400 with times of 54.7, 58.54 (season best), and 59.34 (season best). Hallgarth, C. Hay, and Keith returned to finish 1st, 2nd, and 4th in the 300 hurdles with times of 44.2, 47.61 (season best), and 54.56. I. Chastain, Slaton, and E. Chastain returned to sweep the 800 finishing 1st-3rd with times of 2:12, 2:15 (season best), and 2:19 (season best) respectviely. Bacon (season best), Neuman (season best), and Barada finished 5th, 6th, and 7th in the event. In the 200, Valentine and Cain took 2nd and 3rd with times of 23.19 and 23.21 (season best) with Wood finishing 4th. Sheets, Herrington, Norris, and J. Hay also ran well in the event. Dixon and Sterrett ran well to finish 2nd and 3rd in the 3200 with times of 10:59 and 11:23 (season best). Krodel and Meza finished 5th and 7th overall. The 4×400 team of I. Chastain, Slaton, Griffith, and Miller ran a season best time of 3:40 to finish 1st overall. Teams of Kirchoff, E. Chastain, Bousman, and King as well as Neuman, Bowling, Bacon, and Barada were also strong in the event.

“It was great to have a track meet with some nice weather for a change. It made a difference in tonight’s results and I think our guys looked refreshed. There were 40 season best performances which is outstanding. Consistent improvement is an important part of our goals and it is great to see the guys get rewarded for their work. I think this team has the potential to finish the season very strong.”
