Franklin County 14, Centerville 5

The following is an unedited varsity softball report from Franklin County coach Alex McCool.  We thank him for the report.

Overcoming a slow start offensively, the Wildcats were able to wake the bats up in the later innings and earn another road victory by defeating Centerville by a final score of 14-5. The defense played well for most of the game, and the Wildcats received a strong pitching performance from Camryn Brewer inside the circle during the win. Franklin County has now won eight games in a row, running their record to 15-3 on the season. With the loss Centerville falls to 5-6.

Centerville opened up scoring in the first inning when C. Weiss drove in one when she singled. Their big inning came in the third inning. After gaining some aid from Wildcat errors, Centerville’s runs were driven in from a single by K Lanman and a double by M Stelle.

Franklin County took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. The Wildcats were able to capitalize on Bulldog errors to score multiple runs. The inning started when Hannah Hornsby led off the inning with a walk. Camryn Brewer followed that with a single to give Franklin County runners on first and second with no outs. The big play of the inning came next when Kloe Bolos laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners. The throw to get Bolos out at first flew past the first baseman and went all the way to the outfield wall. Hornsby and Brewer both scored on the error and Bolos went all the way to third. She would later score on a passed ball.

Franklin County blew the game open in the sixth inning when they scored six runs. McCool, Camryn Brewer, Kloe Bolos, and Tessa Harper powered the big inning with RBIs.

Kamryn McCool drove in four runs on three hits to lead Franklin County past Centerville. McCool drove in runs on a single in the sixth and a single in the seventh.

Camryn Brewer pitched a great game to lead the Wildcats in her first career start. She went seven innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits and striking out four to earn her first victory.

Lanman took the loss for Centerville. She allowed ten hits and 14 runs over six and a third innings, striking out seven.

Franklin County ended the game with ten hits. McCool, Brewer, and Hannah Hornsby each had multiple hits for the Wildcats. Brewer and McCool each collected three hits to lead the team.

Centerville tallied seven hits. Lanman and Stelle all collected multiple hits for Centerville.
