Jac-Cen-Del 6, Rising Sun 3; JV Eagles 22-17

The following is an unedited varsity softball report from Rising Sun Athletics.  We thank them for the report.

The Lady Shiners suffered, with emphasis on suffering, their first conference loss of the season, falling 6-3 at home to Jac-Cen-Del. While Rising Sun’s hitting was limited by Lady Eagles’ pitching, there was enough timely hitting to win the game. Unfortunately, Rising Sun’s defense was a huge disappointment committing eight errors which directly led to all six opposition runs.

Junior Abby Wallace delivered offensively for a third straight game garnering a single, double and 3-RBI. Fellow junior Sydney Bostic also singled and doubled.

“Defensively, we looked absolutely horrible,” said coach Bryce Kendrick. “We had eight legitimate errors and there were at least two more defensive mistakes not recorded as errors but are mistakes nonetheless. Offensively, we did not attack at the plate. Our at bats got better after the first time through the order. Every player in our lineup can hit good pitching. But some of our players have to be more mentally tough and believe they can. You can’t be timid. You have to be aggressive. Some players looked defeated after one at bat that didn’t go their way. In some cases, after one swing and a miss they were hanging their heads as if the at bat was over. It’s not. Offensively and defensively, one bad play does not define a performance unless you allow it carry over to the next opportunity. Players have to learn that or they won’t play. The good news is we are still in first in the ORVC. But we are now in a situation where we will likely need to win out to win the conference. It can be done. I believe it can be done, but we have to play better and mentally be much, much tougher.”

For Jac-Cen-Del, pitcher Morgen Carroll struck out 15 in the complete game win.  Emily Adams had three hits (one double) and 2-RBI,  Shelby Groth also batted in two runs.  Regan Carroll provided the other RBI.

The JV lost 22-17. Freshman Shelby Stogsdill singled and tripled with 2-RBI. Sophomore Lura Little also knocked in two runs on a single and double. Freshman Vada Walston drove in a run on a sac fly and classmate Chloe Fletcher batted in a run on a hard hit groudout.

Jac-Cen-Del JV information was not reported.
