Southwestern 22, South Ripley 7

The following is an unedited varsity softball report from GameChanger provided by Southwestern coach Duane Ralston.  We thank him for the report.

Southwestern Lady Rebels defeated South Ripley 22-7 on Saturday thanks in part to Kate Sampson, who drove in five runners. Sampson drove in runs on a double in the first, a single in the first, and a single in the second.

South Ripley scored seven runs in the fourth inning, but Southwestern Lady Rebels still managed to pull out the victory. The offensive onslaught by South Ripley was led by J Scott, C Garcia, C Copland, M Chamuck, and H Dilk, who all drove in runs.

Southwestern Lady Rebels got things started in the first inning when Sampson doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Laykn Wilson earned the win for Southwestern Lady Rebels. She went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking zero. Karli Youngs threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Copland took the loss for South Ripley. She went five innings, allowing 22 runs on 18 hits and striking out two.

Southwestern Lady Rebels tallied 18 hits on the day. Brittany Barnett, Sampson, Kaitlin West, Youngs, and Abby Ralston all managed multiple hits for Southwestern Lady Rebels. Barnettwent 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Southwestern Lady Rebels in hits.

Dilk led South Ripley with two hits in two at bats.
