Franklin County 6, Rushville 2; JV Lions 15-8

The following is an unedited varsity softball report from Franklin County coach Alex McCool.  We thank him for the report.

Wildcats Defeat the Lions 6-2

Franklin County put together one of their most complete games of the season, defeating Rushville Thursday evening by a final score of 6-2. With the win, Franklin County’s record improves to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in EIAC play. Rushville’s record falls to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in EIAC play.

Franklin County’s offense got started in the second inning when Camryn Brewer doubled to left field with one out to get a base runner in scoring position. Then Kendall McCool helped her own cause with a single on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring the first run of the game.

The Wildcats really broke open the game in the sixth inning when they notched four runs.
The big inning lead off with a single by Maggie Wendel and then a double by Kamryn McCool. Next Hannah Hornsby drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. After a fielder’s choice, freshman Kloe Bolos came up with the big hit. Bolos smacked a single into centerfield driving in a run. The ball was then misplayed by the center fielder which allowed two more runs to score and Bolos to advance to second. Then with two outs, Tessa Harper added onto the score with an RBI single of her own which scored Bolos.

Kendall McCool got the win for Franklin County. She was perfect through fifth innings before the Lions were able to string some hits together in the late innings to tack on two runs. She allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out ten and walking zero.

C Gettinger took the loss for Rushville. She went seven innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one.

Franklin County recorded eight hits in the game. Kamryn McCool led Franklin County with three hits in four at bats.

Rushville information was not reported.  The junior varsity report follows.
