Greensburg 15, Batesville 4; Pirate JV 8-3

The following is a varsity softball report from Batesville coach Randy Obermeyer.  We thank him for the report.

The Batesville Lady Bulldog Softball team was defeated last night by Greensburg by the score of 15-4.

Although the overall score showed improvement by the Bulldogs over the last contest between these two teams, the fielding stat sheet did not. The Pirates scored 2 in the 2nd inning, 6 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 6 more in the 7th while the Bulldogs committed a barag of errors in those innings. In the end the Pirates only earned 4 runs in the game.

The Bulldogs scored their first 2 runs in the second inning.Wilson walked, then Garcia singled to center followed by a 2RBI double by Cornn.

The next 2 runs came in the 5th inning. Laker walked, to start the inning, Huffner sacrificed to move Laker to 2nd. Burkhart flied out to center, then Obermeyer hit a 2 RBI home run over the left field fence.

Obermeyer pitched 5 innings and finished with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks and 1 earned run. Westerfeld pitched 2 innings, striking out 3, walking 4 and giving up 3 earned runs.

Obermeyer finished the game with 2 hits (HR and Single) and 2 RBIs. Cornn finished the game with 1 hit (double) and 2 RBIs. Laker, Huffner, Oldham, Westerfeld, Garcia, and Waechter all had a hit each.

Cornn ended the game with 7 putouts, while Garcia finished with 5. Laker and Obermeyer both had 3 assists each.

Coach Obermeyer: “We beat ourselves last night. We put up the hits and runs to match Greensburg’s, pitched the game well, but failed to execute from a fundamental fielding and throwing standpoint.”

Greensburg information was not reported.

A junior varsity report follows.
