Rising Sun 8, Switzerland County 2; Pacer JV 12-7

The following is an unedited varsity softball report from Rising Sun Athletics.  We thank them for the report.

The Lady Shiners played far from their best softball but played well enough to post an 8-2 road victory at Switzerland County Wednesday. Hard contact by RS bats was limited and defense was shaky.

Junior Abby Wallace had four quality at bats including a leadoff single to spark a 4-run second inning, a walk which also included a display of her soccer skills, a safety squeeze bunt RBI in the fifth and a hard lineout to short.

Junior catcher Sydney Bostic hit a key 2-out single in the second which put RS in front to stay. She helped turn a bases loaded double play in the 5th which was started by sophomore pitcher Sydney Pitts and ended with a putout at third by freshman Tyrrah Miller.

Bostic finished with two hits and 2-RBI. Pitts threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts and Miller broke through for an RBI triple in the seventh.

Freshman Lindsay Montgomery and junior Lucy Phelps both had two hits. Montgomery plated two runners and had a pair of stolen bases.

Senior Caroline Stapleton made two nice plays in a very soggy center field and also had a very nice bunt.

“It was an up and down night,” said coach Bryce Kendrick. “We had some bright spots but, overall, we were sloppy at the plate with our mechanics and patience. Defensively, we didn’t make plays we must make against teams who will really test us. Another ORVC win is great, but we have to play better Friday against Milan or we will be on the wrong end of the final score.”

For Switzerland County, Bruce and Lay each had a hit an RBI.  Bruce doubled.

The junior varsity lost 12-7. Freshman Shelby Stogsdill hit the ball hard three times and finished with a single, double and 3-RBI. Classmate Hannah Warr singled and tripled with an RBI and two stolen bases. Sophomore Shy Higham continues to swing well posting a single and a double. Freshman Vada Walston and sophomore Lura Little each batted in a run. Walson’s came on a double.

Switzerland County JV information was not reported.
