East Central 10, Batesville 3; Trojan JV 8-0

The following is an unedited varsity softball report from Batesville coach Randy Obermeyer.

The Batesville Lady Bulldog softball team lost Monday night to East Central for its first home game of the season by a score of 10-3.

Batesville’s starting pitcher, Kara Obermeyer was hit on her throwing hand by a line drive up the middle by East Central’s third batter of the game and had to be removed from the game. Freshman Paige Oldham took over and pitched through the fourth inning. Abby Westerfeld pitched the remainder of the game. Abby finished the game with 4 strikeouts.

Sierra Cornn led the team at the plate with 2 hits. Kate Burkhart hit her first home run of her career. Burkhart, Wilson, and Laker all had 1 RBI each.

Sarah Wilson finished the game with 7 putouts, while freshman, Kylie Laker, ended the game with 4 assists.

Batesville had an improved hitting game last night as compared to Thursday’s game against Greensburg. Defensively, the Bulldogs played very well too. Kylie Laker made all three outs in the second inning fielding ground balls and throwing strikes to Wilson at 1st. Ellie Waechter double off a runner in the 3rd inning when she grabbed a line drive and through to second to complete the double play. Both Garcia and Cook made dives at balls in the outfield but dropped the ball when they hit the ground – their effort was incredible though and just what we will need going forward.

The following is an unedited junior varsity softball story from Batesville assistant coach Stacey Kessens:

It was a chilly night on the diamond as Batesville’s Junior Varsity falls to East Central 8-0.  Three errors in the top half of the first propelled the Trojans out to an early 4-0 lead.  They never looked back from there scoring 3 more in the second inning and one more in the third.

Abby Westerfeld pitched well on the evening going all four innings in the weather shortened game, striking out 7 Trojan hitters.

Hannah Nunlist, McKenzie Laker, and Callie Main each collected a hit a piece for the Bulldogs.
