Henryville beats Milan 4-3 for 2A Regional Title

Henryville-  For a second consecutive season, Henryville defeated an ORVC opponent to win the Class 2A-23 Softball Regional.  Last year, the Lady Hornets won 6-3 at Southwestern Hanover.  On Tuesday, Henryville claimed the regional plate at home with a 4-3 victory over Milan.

This game was part of our spring webcast schedule and is available to watch in our archives by clicking here.

The Lady Indians played small ball to get out to a 1-0 lead in the visitor’s first.  Abby Yelton led off with a bunt single and stole second.  On a ground ball to third, Yelton timed the throw to first and was able to reach the third base bag safely.  She then hustled home on a nice squeeze bunt by Taylor Amberger.

The Lady Hornets countered with two runs during their first turn at the plate.  Reagan Hensley singled to center and was driven in on a triple to the right field corner by Lexie McAfee.  McAfee touched home thanks to a single to right by Peyton Ottersbach.

The score remained 2-1 Henryville through the fourth inning.

In the home fifth, Henryville scored twice.  Hensley and Ottersbach both reached on singles to the outfield grass.  With two down and two strikes against her, Alyssa Eberle knocked in both runners on a base hit to right.

Trailing 4-1 in the sixth, Milan plated a pair of runs to get back within one.  Amberger reached on an error and took second on a wild pitch.  Taryn Cline singled to left moving Amberger to third.  Hailey Myers entered to run for Cline and stole second as the Lady Hornets tried to bait Amberger off of third without success.   Courtney Bruns belted a sac fly to left to bring home Amberger.  With Myers now on third, Sierra Kern put down Milan’s second squeeze bunt of the game and scored Myers.

Down 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Yelton boarded on a bunt single to open the frame.  Following a line drive out to short, Amberger sacrificed Yelton to second.  Yelton, representing the tying run, was left stranded though as the game ended on a fly ball out to right.
