The first two innings were scoreless.  An unassisted line drive double play by Madison first baseman Nettie Eigel erased a lead off single by Connersville’s Emily Reese.  The Spartans’ Makayla Shirkey singled in the second and teammate Ashley Ruble reached on a fielder’s choice with only one out.  However, Madison pitcher Alexis Wolf induced a pair of groundouts to end the threat.

Spartan slinger Jeri Ellis held Madison bats in check early. Amilia Hall and Bailey Dyer both singled with two outs in the first and third innings respectively but were left stranded on groudouts that followed.

Connersville, the home team based on the bracket, scored both of its runs in the third.  Kylie Jackson doubled to right field and took third on a passed ball.  Reese reached on a fielder’s choice to first base.  The throw went to the plate but did not make it in time as Jackson scored.  Reese moved to second on a ground ball then later scored on an infield throwing error.  It was 2-0 Spartans.

Madison got it’s only run in the top of the fourth.  Hall led off with a walk and stole second.  With two outs, Sophie Louden doubled to left center and plated Hall making it 2-1.  Hannah Imel’s infield base hit continued the threat but both Imel and Louden were left standing on the bags as Ellis ended the half inning by recording a strikeout looking.
