Vevay- I said earlier that Switzerland County wasn’t going to apologize for being the team in the 2A regional with the fewest number of wins. Well, don’t expect an apology from the Lady Pacers now either as they are one of only eight teams left in the 2A state tournament.
On Tuesday in Vevay, Switzerland County continued its late season hot streak and upended Providence 6-4.
The Pacers put up the game’s first run in the first inning but the Pioneers countered with three in the second. Switz rallied for five in the fourth to go up 6-3 then gave up one in the top of the fourth.
Trailing 6-4 in the top of the sixth, Providence had the tying and go ahead runners on base with the bases loaded and just one out. The Switzerland County pitching and defense stayed stout and held on to preserve the 6-4 victory.
Mikayla Turner pitched the win for the ladies from Vevay. Teammates Ashley Watson and Shelby O’Neal both doubled. More information will be added when provided.
The win sends Switz to the 2A Regional this Saturday at Forest Park. The Pacers (10-16) will take on No. 9 South Knox (20-8) at approximately 12:30 pm. The Spartans survived at home with a 2-1 win over unranked South Spencer. The 11 am game at Forest Park will pit No. 13 Union County (22-7) against top ranked South Putnam (28-0).
SEI Local Sports congratulates the Lady Pacers on their regional championship.
