St. Leon- After being shocked by Milan and taken down by state-ranked Jennings County earlier in the week, South Dearborn’s Lady Knights reversed their fortune and pulled off a 5-4 win at East Central Friday.
Paige McQueen of EC started the scoring in the home second with a solo home run. SD’s Hannah Rose tied the game in the top of the third. She hit a one-out triple then scored on a fielder’s choice by Morgan Wolfer. The Trojans went back up 2-1 in the home third as Sami Turner walked with two outs and touched home after an outfield error.
Down 2-1, the Knights scored two in the fourth to go up 3-2. Margo Tedesco got on by error and was sacrificed to second by Chloe Bugni. Delaney Murphy singled to score Tedesco. Courtesy runner Ashleigh Largent (running for Muprhy) came home on a single by Amber Brindley.
South Dearborn extended its lead with two runs in the fifth. Jessica Benton led off with a walk then Ellen Barrett belted a two run homer to make it 5-2 Knights.
East Central got both of those runs back in the home fifth. Paige Wiedeman boarded by error and was sacrificed over to third base by Morgan Kain. Sami Turner doubled and drove in Wiedeman. Turner then scored on the second error of the inning to cut the deficit down to 5-4.
Over the final two innings, the Trojans never threatened and South Dearborn notched a big road in St. Leon.
