(BKT/E-Wed) St. Lou 6th gets second W, St. Nick wins by one

Sunman- St. Louis’ sixth grade posted a 30-16 win Wednesday at St. Nicholas in Sunman while St. Nick fought off a comeback effort by St. Louis to win 13-12.

In the sixth grade game, St. Lou was up 10-2 after the first quarter, 22-6 at the half and 26-10 following the third period.

Baylee Rohlfing’s 10 points headed the Cardinal scoring ledger. Gabi Garcia scored eight and Ava Geers put in six to help the Redbirds make it two wins in two games this season.

And in the fifth grade game, the Cardinals battled back after a 6-0 first quarter deficit to cut St. Nick’s lead to 9-4 at the half and 9-8 following the third. However, the rally fell a point short as St. Nicholas held on for the win.

For the Cardinal fifth (now 1-1), Avery Roell scored six points, Hanna Hurm had four and Lydia Gigrich netted two. The Redbirds had two strong defensive quarters in the second and third frames from Ella Gutzwiller and Sophie Brown.

St. Louis will be back in action on Monday when they host St. Lawrence.  St. Nicholas information will be added when received.
